3D Microphone

Our Iconic 3D Measurement Microphone

The Measurement Microphone is one of the most critical components of any Loudspeaker/Room Calibration System.

Trinnov's sophisticated algorithms rely not only on extremely accurate acoustic measurements but also on the ability to localize speakers' positions and detect early reflections.

The ultimate acoustic measurement device

Our 3D Microphone is at the heart of our technology and has the unique capability to capture the data necessary to achieve maximum performance with our advanced acoustic field processing.

More than an ordinary measurement microphone, it captures not only the impulse response of every loudspeaker and subwoofer in your system, but also localizes them in three dimensions.

For every speaker and subwoofer, the microphone provides the Optimizer with a comprehensive amount of acoustic information: frequency response, phase, group delay, impulse response, distance, azimuth, elevation and absolute SPL.

Tetrahedral layout

As each speaker is measured, the resulting sound waves pass through this array of microphone capsules, hitting each one at a slightly different time.

Based on this timing, we can triangulate the location of the speaker from which the sound arrived. By placing the microphone at the main listening position and testing each speaker in turn, we build a three-dimensional map of where the speakers are relative to the main listening position.

We use this information to enable our proprietary Remapping technology, in which we translate from the theoretical rendering of the soundtrack to the specifics of your particular room. Remapping uses the existing speaker array to create a phantom image of the sound coming from the correct location.

Available with our Pro Audio and Residential range

Our 3D Microphone is used with our pro audio and residential range of processors. Note that other measurement hardware is not compatible as it does not provide the information we require.

Our Commercial cinema processors use a specific microphone box and special microphone conversion file to perform multiple measurements with either 4 or 8 microphones at a time. This speeds the calibration of commercial cinemas, where any downtime is costly.

Individually calibrated

Every Trinnov microphone is individually tested and measured at the factory.

Models v9 and before are delivered with a USB stick that contains the compensation file needed for the calibration.

Model v10 recently introduced include the compensation file in the microphone itself, which is seamlessly transferred to the processor during the calibration process.

This helps us achieve measurements with a flat frequency response from 20Hz to 24 kHz (within +/- 0,1dB) with 3D localisation accurate to 2° of azimuth, 2° of elevation, and less than 1 cm of distance
